The treatment of ingrown toenails is a frequent and common challenge for a hospital surgical department or a doctor in his/her surgery. This topic is unfortunately often seen as trivial and relatively unimportant by doctors and sickness insurances, although it generally causes great pain and results in the patient requiring sick leave, which in turn has an impact on the national economy.
In Dr. Harrer's thesis the VHO-Osthold brace® - a conservative orthonyxie treatment of unguis incarnatus where a metal brace is fitted to the nail - is compared to the Emmert plasty surgical procedure in two groups of patients.
