The system consists of the brace with its two mini-levers, a and b, and a loop (part c). Both elements are made of thin high quality spring steel wire.

The first lever is fitted to the non or lesser damaged side of the nail, fixed in place and cut off to the appropriate length.
The second lever is fitted and fixed in place. By virtue of the "handle" in the middle of the brace the therapist is able to work with great care and dexterity, thus sparing the patient further pain.

The loop is then fitted and is twisted by turning the winding tool. In this way the three parts of the VHO brace are joined together. The resulting leverage force lifts the edges of the nail out of the inflamed area so that the pressure and the accompanying pain is immediately relieved.

All protruding pieces of wire (from brace and loop) are cut off and covered with artificial nail mass (for protection of socks etc.).
